L-Ewwel Ambjent għall-Bniedem huwa l-Ġuf tal-Omm

______________________________________________________________________

Onorevoli Dr Anglu Farrugia, Dr Godfrey Farrugia u s-Sur David Agius

Madwar  Malta kollha hawn  evidenza ċara ħafna li l-poplu Malti qed ikabbar l-interess tiegħu dwar l-ambjent ...u qed jaħdem ħafna biex ikun imħares l-ambjent.

Permezz ta’ din il-proposta l-Malta Unborn Child Movement gie għandek biex jippromwovi l-ideja li l-ewwel ambjent għall-bniedem jitfaċċa quddiemu mhux meta jitwieled... bid-dinja ta’ madwaru. L-ewwel ambjent għall-bniedem huwa l-ġuf tal-omm... u  anki qabel.

Illum dan sar magħruf, u jingħad minn ħafna xjenzjati, skulari  u għaqdiet internazzjonali. Ilu jgħidu l-Moviment minn meta twaqqaf fl-2003 bil-parteċipazzjoni tat-tlett partiti politiċi Maltin.

Għal dan il-għan il-Moviment organiżża għaxar konferenzi nazzjonali dwar il-Ġuf bħala  l-Ewwel Ambjent għall-Bniedem u dwar Kwalita ta’ Ħajja Aħjar  ghat-Tarbija fil-Ġuf tal-Omm.

Ħareġ wkoll Charter dwar id-Dinjita, d-Drittijiet, il-Protezzjoni u l-Iżvilupp tat-Tarbija fil-Ġuf tal-Omm ... li jiggwida ħafna lill-Moviment.

Għalhekk il-Moviment qed jissuġġerixxi lill-Parlament Malti li jwessa l-ħarsa tiegħu fuq l-kunċett tal-ambjent biex dan jibda jinkludi ukoll  l-ewwel ambjent għall-bniedem...il-ġuf tal-omm.  Għandna nimxu ukoll biex jibda jkollna politika nazzjonali dwar l-Ekoloġija tal-Ġuf. Il-partiti politiċi għandhom jibdew idaħħlu l-Ekoloġija tal-Ġuf fil-Manifest elettorali tagħhom.

Hawn Malta għandna pożizzjoni unika li m’għandhomx bħalha l-pajjiżi kollha tad-dinja.  Għandna  it-tlett partiti politiċi jiddikjaraw li huma favur il-ħajja mill-konċepiment u kontra l-abort.  Il-Malta Unborn Child Movement qed jissuġġerixxi, u jagħmel proposta,  biex Malta issir wkoll Centru tal-Ekolġija tal-Ġuf fil-Mediterran.

Il-Moviment diga beda jaħdem biex din l-ideja isir rejalta. Għamilna kuntatti ma’ erba Għaqdiet Internazzjonali dwar l-Psikoloġija u l-Mediċina ta’ qabel u matul it-tqala fil-Ġermanja, fl-Svizzera, fi Spanja u fl-Stati Unitii ta l-Amerika.  U tlabna il-kooperazzjoni u l-kollaborazzjoni tagħhom biex din l-ideja nagħmluha rejalta. Dawn weġbuna l-erba u offrewlna l-għajnuna tagħhom. Qedin fl-istadju li nsibu l-aħjar meżż kif nikkollaboraw. Dawn l-għaqdiet diġa mxew ħafna fuq l-Ekologija tal-Guf. Il-motto tagħhom huwa:  Womb Ecology in World Ecology”.

Rapport dwar Malta  mill-Għaqda Dinjia tas-Saħħa fl-2009 bl-isem “Environment and health performance review’”, kien qal li t-tfal u ż-żgħażagħ qed jingħataw prijorita fl-oqsma tal-ambjent u s-saħħa.. u anki s-saħħa fuq il-postijiet tax-xogħol. U hekk għandu jkun.

Teżisti ħafna evidenza xjentifika li l-użu ħażin u l-abbuż tax-xorb alkoħoliku, id-drogi u t-tabakk mill-ġenituri tat-trabi fil-ġuf tal-omm kemm qabel u, agħar, waqt it-tqala, jagħmlu ħsara fiżika, mentali u emozzjonali lit-tarbija fil-ġuf tal-omm. L-istess ħsara jagħmluha  l-emissjonijiet kimiċi u tossiċi li jinbilgħu  mill-arja mill-ommijiet u l-missierijiet, u madwar 200 miljun tarbija fil-ġuf tal-omm madwar id-dinja kollha kull sena, inkluzi madwar 4000 tarbija kull sena fil-Gżejjer Maltin.

Jiġri l-istess meta il-ġenituri tat-trabi fil-ġuf tal-omm jkunu esposti għall-kimiċi u sustanzi tossiċi fuq il-postijiet tax-xogħol.  Ambjent ieħor importanti ħafna.

Din il-ħsara se titkompla jekk ma’ ssirx kampanja hawn Malta,  u anki mondjali, li tiddikjara li s-saħħa.... fiżika, mentali u emozzjonali tat-tarbija fil-ġuf tal-omm ...qed tkun  affetwata ħafna minn dawn l-effetti negattivi tal-ambjent.

L-Għaqda Internazzjonali dwar il-Psikologija u l-Medicina ta’ qabel u matul it-tqala - l-ISPPM - waħda mill-erba għaqdiet internazzjonali li qed jaħdem magħhom l-Moviment -  li taħdem ħafna fuq l-ewwel fażi tal-iżvilupp uman – tikkonsidra l-ewwel stadji tal-ħajja bħala l-ewwel pożizzjoni ekoloġijka tal-bniedem u l-ġuf bħala l-ewwel ambjent ekoloġiku. It-tqala hi meqjusa bħala l-perjodu fejn ikun hemm djalogu attivi u kontinwu bejn t-tarbija fil-ġuf, l-omm u l-ambjent psiko-socjali tagħha.

Teżisti evidenza  xjentifika ukoll li l-qalb tat-tarbija fil-ġuf tħabbat aktar meta  l-omm tkun għaddejja minn stress waqt it-tqala.

Fil-bidu ta’din il-proposta għidna li  "L-ewwel ambjent għall-bniedem huwa l-ġuf tal-omm... u anki qabel.” “Anki qabel” ifisser li illum bil-liġi li għandna dwar InVitro Fertilization - l-IVF - il-bidu nett tal-bniedem  ma jkunx fil-ġuf  tal-omm..imma fid-dish – il-vitro. U illum, meta nafu li diġa għandna embrijuni fil-friza...tfal żgħar ħafna fil-bidu nett tat-tnissil taghhom... żgur li  l-bidu nett tal-ħajja tal-bniedem mhux fil-ġuf  irid ikun ukoll protett mill-ħsara.. u anki mill-mewt.

Tajjeb ukoll niftakru li dan huwa ukoll kif indikat fil-Konvenzjoni tad-Drittijiet tat-Tfal, li "it-tarbija, minħabba l-immaturità fiżika u mentali tiegħha, teħtieġ salvagwardji u attenzjoni speċjali, inkluż ħarsien legali xieraq, qabel kif ukoll wara t-twelid. "

Il-fertilita u l-kura tal-infertilita illum il-ġurnata, li hawn iżjed għarfien dwar is-saħħa ħolistika tal-bniedem, hija ukoll relatata ma’ promozzjoni ta’ healthy lifestyles. Fil-fatt bħala parti mill-Infertility Support Services illum insibu ukoll psikoloġi, nutritionists, terapisti tal-familja, terapisti tax-xogħol, u speċjalisti dwar l-ambjent, li qed jaħdmu fuq it-twessiħ tal-kunċett ta’ healthy life styles, dieta bilanċjata, eżerċizzju fiżiku u t-tnaqqis,  jew l-eliminazzjoni, tal-istress fil-familja u fuq ix-xogħol.  F’pajjiżi oħra dan il-metodu qed jagħti  riżultati pożittivi u anke ta t-tfal lill-koppji li ma kellhomx. Dan jista, u għandu jidhol ukoll fil-Proġett dwar Ekoloġija tal-Ġuf.

Irridu nibqgħu nżommu l-valur sabiħ u nobbli tal-ħarsien tal-bidu tal-ħajja umana mill-konċepiment kif għamilna sa issa u li aħna magħrufin għalih mad-dinja kollha.

Dan hu twemmin politiku. Qed naħsbu li fil-progett dwar l-Ekologija tal-Guf nistghu nkomplu nahdm  mal-partiti politiċi fil-Parlament.

Nixtiequ li fil-futur qarib naħdmu mal-Parlament Malti biex norganiżżaw Konferenza Nazzjonali dwar l-Ekologija tal-Guf b’intenzjoni partikolari li aħna l-Maltin, specjament waqt l-Presidenza ta Malta tal-Unjonji Ewropeja f’dawn is-sitt xhur li dhalna fihom fl-ewwel ta Jannar ta din is-sena, nkunu, u nidhru li aħna, pont bejn l-Ewropa u l-Afrika, fil-Mediterran, dwar il-promozzjoni ta’  kwalita ta’ ħajja mill-aħjar għat-trabi kollha li kjunu se jitwieldu f’dan ir-regjun...u anki ‘l hinn minnhu.

Għal dan il-għan qed ngħaddulkom il-links ta’ żewġ videos dwar l-Ekoloġija tal-Ġuf minn Dr Thomas Verny, awtorita’ mondjali dwar dan is-suġġett, lil aħna diġa ftaħna kuntatt miegħu biex insibu l-aħjar mezz biex nikkollaboraw fuq dan is-suġġett.

Grazzi ħafna.

fl-Oratorju tal-Katidral ta’ San Ġwann, Valletta

----------------------------------------------------------------

Celebrazzjoni ta' Jum il-Ħajja....

'Il-ħajja hi sabiħa. Il-ħajja hi dritt fundamentali.'

 'Jien bdejt ħajti bhala embrijun.'

'L-abort (tal-fetus) hu qtil, daqskemm hu qtil, meta tarbija tinqatel.'

'L-aqwa investiment li għandu l-bniedem hi saħtu ( wellbeing).'

'L-ewtanasja mhux dritt fundamentali tal-bniedem.'

'L-Ella hi abortiva.'

'Kif tista tkun ambjentalist jekk ma tkunx favur il-ħajja.'

Dawn huma ftit mill-ħafna fehmiet dwar il-ħajja li jien espremejt fl-aħħar xhur fil-parlament, u li jien għext, bħala tabib tul-ħajti flimkien mal-pazjenti u familji taghhom.

Ġentili Sinjuri, qed nindirizza nies miġbura f'moviment favur il-ħajja, ħafna minnkom imsieħba f' għaqdiet, li jħarsu l-wild qabel it-twelid, u għalqadstant ser naqsam magħkom xi jfisser għaliha meta jien ngħid li:  Jien pro-life.

Qabel xejn irrid ngħamilha ċara li hi l-ħajja, li tiddistingwi krejatura minn oġġett jew organiżmu li hu mejjet, u dan għax, din l-krejatura waqt li tgħix...tgħaddi minn proċess ta' żvilupp fejn bi żmien tikber... tirriproduċi....u fl-aħħar mill-aħħar, tkun anke kapaċi taddatta għal kwalinkwe bidla fil-madwar...u tgħix sakemm tmut.

Allura li jien inkun favur il-ħajja( Prolife), jfisser li jien nkun favur id-dinjita tal-bniedem ( human being), favur l-inklużżjoni u favur id-dritt tal-ugwaljanza, u dan tul il-ħajja tal-bniedem mill-konċepiment sal-mewt,  irrispettivament jekk wieħed hux fqir, armel/a, iltim, ħabsi, refuġjat, persuna b' diżabilta, ta' orjentazzjoni sesswali jew ġeneru differenti, razza oħra, f'ġuf l-omm jew f'petri dish... f'kelma waħda hu x' inhu l-istat vulnerabli, tiegħu jew tagħha.

Li tkun pro-life għalija jfisser li tkun :

favur il-paċi u d-diplomazija,

favur ir-ruħ soċjali, soċjeta ġusta u l-kultura,

favur il-ħarsien u s-sostenn tal-klima, il-beraħ u l-madwar,

favur id-donazzjoni tal-organi u tessuti u ċelloli (diploid) u trapjanti

favur il-ħarsien u l-promozzjoni tas-saħħa u li tippreveni l-mard, u la tkun marid jkollok kwalita gholja ta' kura li tkun patient centric.

favur mewta naturali b'serenita

favur l-Assisted Reproductive Technology, hekk kif elenkata fl-Embryo Protection Act, u li nhares lejn il-materita bhala stat naturali b' esperjenza pozitiva

Hu żgur ukoll li jien kontra kull konflitt u gwerrer, il-piena tal-mewt, il-vjolenza domestika, il-ewtanasja, is-suwiċidju, l-iskjavitu, is-sabutaġ, il-moħqrija, swat u s-serq, l-abbuż ta' minorenni, persuni b' diżabilta jew xjuħ, u r-riċerka mhux umana fuq il-bniedem jew anke l-animali....iva, jien kontra kontra kull abbuż għax favur ilajja.

Li tkun pro-life jfisser ukoll li ma tibżgħax turi wiċċek u tesprimi fehmtek...u li titkellem il-verita, minajr ma ddur mal-kelma...u li fuq kollox, tkun favur ix-xjenza u favur drittijiet universali tal-bniedem.

Ħbieb, illum qed ngħixu f'dinja teknoloġika, globaliżżata... fejn l-avvanzi tax-xjenza huma kbar, fejn in-norm tal-ħajja qed dejjem jinbidel,  fejn f'soċjeta mibdula, il-bniedem faċli jinsa l-valuri u l-prinċipji li jgħarfuh u jgħolluh.

Li hu ċert hu, li  l'hemm mill-lenti politika, dik reliġjuza u dik filosofika, ix-xjenza għal aktar minn mitt sena, u b'mod konsistenti pruvat, li ma hemm l-ebda dubju: il-ħajja tal-bniedem tibda mill-konċipiment.

Iżda li qed jiħri hu, li minkejja iż-żelu u t-talent tal-bniedem, biex bis-saħħa tax-xjenza ntejbu l-kwalita tal-ħajja li ngħixu, f'ċertu ċirkostanzi wasalna f'punt, fejn bl-iskuża tad-dritt tal-għażla qed nonqsu, u s-soċjeta fil-fatt qed tiddgħajjef, għax qed insiru aktar individwalisti, egoisti u l-kunċett ta' xejn mhu xejn daħal fl-attitudni ta' bosta.

Li nkun Pro-life għalhekk ifisser :

li t-teħid tal-mediċini b'emerġenza, bħala meżż ta' kontraċettiv qabel l-impjantazzjoni tal-embrijun, jistgħu joqtlu,

li d-donazzjoni ta' sperma u ova trid tiġi studjata u diskussa b'kawtela għax joħolqu diversi perikoli, anke kontra drittijiet tal-bniedem li l-abort jew late termination of pregnancy hu qtil, u li kwalinkwe tbabis b' riċerka fuq l-embrijun innifsu, per eżempju fil-proċess biex iseħħ il-cloning, chimeras u stem cells, hu kundannabli.

Sinjuri, l-embrijun ma huwiex xi tumur jew xi oġġett mhux f'postu, li jinzerta b'kumbinazzjoni f'xi utru, lest biex b' deċiżjoni ta' għażla jintrema mill-omm, jew minn raġel li jisforza mara f'għemila.

Dan ma huwiex mod ta' birth control jew mod kif tippjana stil ta' ħajja.

Id-dritt tal-għażla ( Pro-choice) tal-mara fuq is-saħħa riproduttiva tagħha, ma jgħatiex id-dritt lit-tali mara jekk hi tidditerminax l-ħajja ta' bniedem ieħor, li jinsab fl-aktar stat dgħajjef ta' ħajtu jew ħajjieta. Hu dan fil-fehma tiegħi jgħodd anke f'każ ta' stupru jew mankament ta' tarbija.

Li tkun pro-feminist, u jien wieħed minnhom, ma jfissirx li wieħed irid ikun bilfors parti mill-moviment pro-choice. Hemm ħafna prinċipji li jien bħalkom miġbura hawn, inħaddan favur il-mara. Dan mhux l-argument.

Iżda, ma hemmx dubju, bniedem li hu pro-choice, bil-mod kif jirrraġġunaw nies ta' din il-fehma, ma hux biss pro-map f'kull sens imma wkoll hu jew hi pro-abortion... u għalhekk ħa nitkellem ċarr u tond, għalija huma pro-death.

Naħseb taħsbuha bħali u tieħdux qatgħa għax ser nuża kelma mhux disprezz, iżda b'paragun minħabba l-waħx taċ-ċirkostanzi .

L-abort hu holocust ieħor, ta' dinja moderna, li issejjaħ lilha nnifissha, ċivilizata.

Fehmti hi ċara, jiena bħala bniedem fil-politika, għandi l-obligu li nisma u nixtarr, niddeċidi...u naġixxi f'isem id-drittijiet komuni u ta' pajjiżi.

Fl-oqsma dwar ħajja, mingħajr tlaqliq ngħid :  ma hemmx  eċċezzjonijiet, ma hemmx kompromessi, ma nsib l-ebda skuża.

L-istatement hu ċar : Jien pro-life mill-konċipiment sal-mewt.

Id-dover tiegħi hu, li bħala leġislatur u policy maker ( dan hu xogħol il-politiku fil-Parlament ) jien inħares il-verita, inħares it-tajjeb, inħares id-dinjita ta' kull individwu huma x'inhuma s-social contracts, iżda qatt b' nuqqas lejn il-ħarsien tad-dritt universali tal-ħajja.

Sinjuri, Illum qed ngħixu fi żmien, fejn il-partiti fil-parlament jaħsbuha l-istess dwar l-abort, għax lkoll huma kontrieh.

Hu fatt ukoll li l-liġi Maltija tirrikonoxxi l-konċipiment bħala l-bidu tal-ħajja u l-abort ilu illegali sa mis-seklu 19. Aħna ġens għaqli u nobbli, u għalkemm nidhru ferm differenti minn ġnus oħra, inkluż membri stati tal-Unjoni Ewropeja, hi din il-karatteristika li tiddistingwina, bhala Nazzjon Pro-life. Għadna biex niftaħru.

F'dan ir-rigward nifhem li għad fadal xjitwettaq minna, biex filwaqt dak li kiseb il-poplu Malti jinżamm, inkunu aktar pro-attivi u b'għemilna nkomplu nsaħħu aktar il-ħarsien tal-ħajja.

Ser nerġa ntenn, dak li stqarejt qabel, l-Ġnus Magħquda hi żbaljata f'dan il-qasam u għad jasal iż-żmien li din l-istituzzjoni  tibdel ir-rotta wkoll.

Sinjuri, illum tifhmuni aktar, għalfejn jien bħala politiku, bħala tabib u missier: favur il-ħajja.

Grazzi talli inthom xhieda u tarka Pro-life.                                                                      o

Hon Clyde Puli, Shadow Minister, Nationalist Party

delivering his pro-life speech in Maltese on Pro-Life Day in Malta

at the Caravaggio Oratory of St John's Cathedral, Valletta, Malta

Jum il-Ħajja - il-Ħadd 5-2-2017

organizzat mill-Malta Unborn Child Movement

Diskors mill-Onor Clyde Puli - Shadow Minister, Partit Nazzjonalista

fl-Oratorju tal-Katidral ta’ San Ġwann, Valletta

Huwa bi pjaċir li illum ningħaqad magħkom għal din iċ-ċelebrazzjoni favur il-ĦAJJA. – Il-Ħajja mill-bidu tagħha sat-tmiem tagħha. – Ħajja li jistħoqqilha l-aktar valur għoli.

U l-liġi tagħna tirrifletti dan il-valur għoli li nagħtu l-ħajja. Dan L-ispirtu huwa rifless fit-titlu tal-liġi Maltija dwar il-mezzi ta’ fertilizzazjoni assistita – L-Att dwar il-Protezzjoni tal-Embrijun – jiġifieri l-ħarsien tad-dritt tat-tarbija li għadha ħa titwieled, fl-istess waqt li ngħinu biex nferrħu tant koppji bi problemi ta infertilita permezz tal-għajnuna tat-teknoloġija –

Liġi li damet tiġi diskussa snin –– Liġi li għaddiet bmod unanimu fil-parlament – Liġi li sabet kunsens wiesa – inkluz minn elementi li llum qed jimbottaw biex jibdluha………

Iċ-ċelebrazzjoni tal-llum

- qed ssir f’kultura dejjem tikber ta’ disposable –  bdejna bil-ħrieqi u jista jkun nispiċċaw bir-rimi tal-embrijuni.

- qed issir f’soċjeta, li kull ma’ jmur, qed tidra tagħti prezz, aktar milli valur, lil kollox, - u spiċċajna nbiegħu da kollu li jista jġib prezzu, mis-sapun saċ-ċittadinanza – u min jaf forsi ftit ieħor il-ġuf u l-istess ħajja.

Soċjeta li tgħallimna nieħduha qatta bla ħabel kontra l-piena kapitali, anke għal min nstab ħati li qatel u għamel massakru minn umani oħra, - u fl-istess waqt lesta tissentenzja għall-mewt, tarbija innoċenti fil-ġuf.

Soċjeta li tgħallmet  tapprezza u tiddefendi l-bajda ta’ fekruna filwaqt li qed tilef is-sens ta’ għozza li kellha lejn embrijun uman

Din hi l-isfida li qed ngħix llum……hija ġlieda li f’hin jew ieħor se niffaċjaw f pajjizna

Jien lest niġġielidha u l-Kap tiegħi Simon Busuttil reġa talabni nagħti l-assigurazzjoni tal-Partit Nazzjonalista li l-protezzjoni tal-ħajja mill-bidu sat-tmiem tagħha, kienet u se tibqa fuq l-aġenda tagħna.

Dik il-liġi tal-2012 kienet rebħa għal min jemmen fil-ħajja u rebħa għall-ħajja nfisha.

Imma jkun zball jekk xi ħadd jemmen li dik il-ġlieda, bħal;-assedju l-kbir, ntrebħet darba biex tibaqa mnizzla fl-istorja. Il-Ħajja rridu niddefenduha kuljum.n

Jum il-Ħajja — Il-Ħadd 05-02-2017

Organizzat mill-Malta Unborn Child Movement

Manifestazjoni favour il-Ħajja mill-konċepiment

Diskors ta’ Simon Galea — rappresentant ta’ Alternattiva Demokratika

Fl-Oratorju tal-Katidral ta’ San Ġwann, Valletta

Prosit lill-Moviment Tarbija fil-Ġuf għall-organizzazzjoni ta’ din l-attvità waqt li nirringrazzjakom f’isem AD tal-istedina.

Alternattiva Demokratika favur il-ħajja. AD kontra l-abort minn dejjem għax filwaqt li tapprezza d-diffikultajiet partikolarment tan-nisa li jkollhom iġorru r-responsabbiltà aħħarija tat-tarbija fil-ġuf, fl-istess waqt id-dritt għall-ħajja tat-tarbija tieħu s-sopravvent. F’ċirkostanzi bħal dawn hu dover tas-soċjetà li tkun sensittva lejn il-probemi u d-diffikultajiet illi dawn il-persuni jkunu għaddejjin minnhom u toffrilhom sapport sabiex jindukraw it-tarbija li qed iġorru.

Għandha wkoll tingħata aktar edukazzjoni fl-iskejjel dwar użu ta’ kontraċettivi sabiex jonqsu każijiet ta’ tqala mhux ippjanata. Finalment prevention is better than cure.

Il-protezzjoni ta’ tarbija f’ġuf ommha ma tiqafx hawn. It-tarbija fil-ġuf, bħal kull persuna oħra, għandha dritt għall-ambjent san-nieqes minn kul tip ta’ tniġġiż. 6% tal-ħxejjex u frott li ġew spezzjonati tul dawn l-aħħar snin instabu b’livell ta’ pestiċidi iktar milli aċċettabbli (f’każijiet anke 10 darbiet aktar mil-livell aċċettabbli) b’detriment għat-tarbija fil-ġuf.

In-numru ta’ spezzjonijiet huma limitati minħabba spejjeż involuti peress illi dawn ikollhom jintbagħtu barra minn xtutna waqt illi l-bejgħ ta’ prodotti kontaminati jitwaqqaf biss wara li jasal ir-riżultat minn barra, liema proċess jieħu tul ta’ żmien. Għalhekk, investiment f’laboratorju għandu jieħu prijorità jekk verament nemmnu fid-dritt tal-ħajja.

Il-ħajja sagra f’kull stadju tagħha u l-AD tħoss li għandna nħarsuha. Dan jgħodd sa mit-tnissil daqskemm jgħodd għal tfal, żgħażagħ u adulti indipendentement mill-kulur tal-ġilda, nazzjonalità jew twemmin tagħhom. Ma nistgħux indawru ħarsitna band’oħra għat-tbatijiet li għaddejjin minnhom miljuni ta’ nies — fosthom ħafna tfal — riżiultat ta’ persekuzzjonijiet u gwerer f’pajjiżhom. Dawn in-nies għandhom bżonn il-protezzjoni liema protezzjoni mhux dejjem qed tingħata. Mhux aċċettabbli illi nisimgħu b’aħbarijiet ta’ persuni imutu f’kampijiet tar-refuġjati minħabba kondizzjonijiet mhux adekwati, tfal refuġjati li jisparixxu u abbuż ta’ dawn in-nies vulnerabbli minn min jara opportunità illi jaqla kemxa flus minn fuq dahar dawn in-nies billi japprofitta ruħu mis-sitwazzjoni li ninsabu fiha.

Favur il-ħajja għax ma nemmnux f’politika ta’ segregazzjoni fejn flok nibnu pontijiet li jgħaqqduna nibnu ħitan li jifirduna bħal ma qed jiġri fl-Istati Uniti. Permezz ta’ din il-politika, flok tintwera solidarjetà ma’ xulxin qed jingħalqu l-bibien f’wiċċ xulxin. Mhux talli tikkreja tbatijiet bla bżonn għal dawk milqutin direttament imma toħloq ambjent fertili għal aktar terroriżmu fejn aktar ħajjiet jintilfu bla bżonn.

Favur il-ħajja għax persuni speċjalment tfal li kellhom protezzjoni umanitarja temporanja ma jistgħux jiġu deportati mingħajr ma nagħtu każ tal-fatt li ilhom is-snin jgħixu Malta. Irriskju ta’ tfal li jispiċċaw itturufnati u bla pajjiż għandu jkun piż fuq il-kuxjenza tagħna.

Finalment li tkun favur il-ħajja tfisser illi tkun responsabbil ta’ għemilek. Ħafna ħajjiet jintilfu kull sena riżultat ta’ inċidenti fejn numru minnhom setgħu kienu evtati. Tul is-sena li għaddiet 22 ħajja intilfet riżultat ta’ inċidenti ta’ traffiku. AD temmen f’kampanja edukattiva u infurzar ikbar tal-liġijiet relatati mat-Traffiku għax il-ħajja sagra. Dejjem.o

Diskors ta’ Josef Debono, President tal-Azzjoni Kattolika Maltija

fl-Oratorju tal-Caravaggio, Katidral ta’ San Gwann, Valletta, Malta

Sinjuri, Insellmilkom

Il-ħidma tagħna favur il-ħajja hija ispirata minn font li hu ferm għola mir-raġuni umana.  Il-kapaċità li l-bniedem għandu li iħobb ġiet imnissla fih sa mill-ħolqien u sabet il-milja tagħha fis-salvazjoni ta’ Ġesu’ Kristu.  Il-ħajja mhix tagħna, imma ġiet fdata lilna biex nieħdu ħsiebha u naraw li tilħaq il-potenzjal sħiħ tagħha.

Irridu ngħidu li ħafna mill-persuni f’soċjetajiet differenti għandhom rispett u mħabba kbira lejn il-ħajja.  Fostna imma, hemm ukoll pressjoni biex il-ħajja, li hi l-aktar ħaġa għażiża għal bniedem, issir kommodità u li tiġi għas-servizz tal-ekonomija.  Dan narawh mill-kummerċalizzazzjoni tal-mediċina u tas-servizzi mediċi.  Biljuni ta’ nies madwarna m’għandhomx jgħedd għall-mediċina adekwata għax ma jistgħux iħallsu.  Narawh ukoll fit-trends ta’ kif anki l-kura tal-anzjani qed isir sors ta’ qligħ. Qed ninsew li l-aktar ħaġa importanti għall-anzjani tagħna hi li nkunu qribhom u li nakkumpanjawhom fl-aħħar snin ta’ ħajjithom u mhux li nibgħatuhom f’isolament lussuż.

Donna l-umanità ma tistax tirrealizza dak li l-istorja tgħallimna.  Il-ħajja ta’ miljuni ta’ persuni qed tispiċċa, jew qed titpoġġa fil-periklu.  Ħafna drabi qed niddeċiedu aħna lil min ngħinu u lil min le, lil min insalvaw u lil min noqtlu jew inħalluh jinqatel, fejn nitkellmu u naqbżu għad-drittijiet u fejn nibqgħu indifferenti jew siekta.  Dan qed jagħmel lil kull waħda u wieħed minna, anġlu tal-mewt, jew kollaboraturi tiegħu.

Il-valur veru tal-bniedem joħroġ minn kemm ikun kapaċi jiddefendi, b’kull mod possibli, lil min hu aktar vulnerabbli.  Quddiem il-ħarsien tal-ħajja umana m’hemm ebda raġuni jew skuża li huma validi biżżejjed biex jiġġustifikaw il-mewt.  F’kwistjonijiet dwar il-bidu ta’ ħajja nisimgħu ħafna dwar id-dritt tal-għażla.  Id-dritt li nagħżel liema tarbija titwieled u liema noqtol.  Spiss dawn l-argumenti huma kontradittorji. L-informazzjoni li tingħata qatt ma tkun sħiħa.  Min-naħa l-oħra l-persuni,  speċjalment l-ommijiet li jkunu iridu jagħmlu d-deċiżjoni dwar  l-ħajja li tkun bdiet ġo fihom, ħafna drabi ma jkunux kompletament liberi fil-ħsieb tagħhom minħabba l-mument li jkunu għaddejjin minnu.

Il-gwadann finanzjarju mill-metodi u l-mediċini li itemmu l-ħajja rari nisimgħu dwaru.  Spiss u f’ħafna pajjiżi kampanji biex jiddaħħlu metodi ta’ abort differenti ikollhom warajhom qawwiet u interessi finazjarji kbar.  Fil-maggoranza kbira ta’ dawn il-każijiet dan ikun l-interess tal-ftit li jkunu qed ifittxu li jkomplu jiffangaw fil-flus, minn fuq dahar il-ħafna persuni vulnerabbli li jkunu qed jiffaċċjaw kriżijiet f’ħajjithom.  Hawn ma nistax ma nsaqsix: xi gwadann finanzjarju kien hemm bl-introduzzjoni tal-morning after pill, u minn min? Min kellu l-akbar interess li din tispiċċa fis-suq Malti? Dwar dan kien hemm silenzju perfett fid-dibattittu li sar qabel din ġiet introdotta f’Malta. Fuq l-istess linja irridu nistaqsu, min se jkun qed jiggwadanja u min jaqbillu l-aktar li jiffinanzja kampanji li jimbuttaw l-introduzzjoni tal-abort f’Malta.

Il-persuni li jirrikorru għal metodi abortivi, aktar iva milli le, huma vittmi huma ukoll.  Ħafna drabi ikunu fi kriżi u ma jkunux qed jaraw toroq oħra.  Probabbli li f’dak il-mument diffiċli, l-unika soluzzjoni li jaraw tkun l-abort.  Ammont ta’ pajjiżi jippermettu dawn is-soluzzjonijiet għax huma soluzzjoni relattivament faċli.  Aħna imma irridu nħarsu lejn il-bniedem b’rispett u dinjità ferm akbar.  Kull ħajja li tibda hi responsabbiltà tas-soċjetà kollha.  Għalhekk mhux biżżejjed li bħala stat nwaqqfu milli isiru aborti f’pajjiżna. Irridu nagħtu sapport adekwat lil dawk li jkunu qed jiffaċċjaw kriżi minħabba tqala li ma tkunx ippjanata.  Irrid insibu modi kif lil dawn in-nies mhux talli ma niġġudikawhomx, imma talli ngħinuhom fit-triq li jkunu daħlu fiha.

Hemm bżonn li insibu sistemi kif iċ-ċittadini tagħna jirċievu edukazzjoni li tippreparahom jiffaċċjaw il-kriżijiet f’ħajjithom, qabel isibu ruħhom f’sitwazzjonijiet diffiċli.  Is-sistemi edukattivi tagħna ftit li xejn jagħtu kas dan l-aspett tant importanti fil-ħajja tal-bniedem.  Sa ċertu punt qed nedukaw għal prevenzjoni mill-kriżijiet, imma mhux ngħinu lin-nies ikollhom l-għodda biex jiffaċċjaw ħajja li ħafna drabi toffri sfidi kbar.

Naturalment dan kollu jitlob impenn kbir.  It-triq mhix faċli, imma hi triq li tagħmel gieħ lil bniedem u tgħinu iwassal l-missjoni tiegħu bid-dinjità li tixraqlu u mhux li jagħżel soluzzjonijiet li jkissruh u jagħmluh miżeru.                                                                 o

Jum il-Ħajja - il-Ħadd 5-2-2017

organizzat mill-Malta Unborn Child Movement

Diskors minn Dr Klaus Vella Bardon

Vici Chairman  LIFE NETWORK MALTA

fl-Oratorju tal-Katidral ta’ San Ġwann, Valletta

Membri Parlamentari,  Membri tal-Kleru,  Sinjuri Distinti, Sinjuri,

Nixtieq nirringrazzja lis-Sur Tony Mifsud talli onorani bl-istedina tiegħu biex nindirizza din il-ġabra ta’ nies distinti f'isem Life Network Malta f'din il-oratorju ta’ sinifikat tant kbir.

Nixtieq insellem lis-Sur Mifsud ta’ l-enerġija notevoli tieghu fil-ħidma għall-ġid komuni u għal tant snin.

 Hidma verament eċċezzjonali.

Kif nafu ahna ikoll, il-ħajja tiffjorixxi f'ambjent san u b'saħħtu.

Ghalhekk, is-soċjetà għandha r-responsabbiltà kbira biex tagħmel kulma tista biex igibu l-quddiem.... Per ezempju permezz ta’ ligijiet li jipproteġu u jippromwovu l-arja nadifa, jassiguraw provvisti ta' ilma sikur, jfasslu pjanar ta-bini u habitats armonjużi eċċ, eċċ, eċċ

Huwa għalhekk li l-liġijiet ta pajjizna jrazznu it-tniġġis, jikontrollaw it-tipjip, il-konsum eċċessiv ta' alkoħol u jillegalizzaw dwar il-ġestjoni tal-iskart ... biex insemmu biss xi wħud mir-responsabiltajiet civici f’dan il-qasam.

Pero’ u fuq kollox, l-ambjent aktar kritiku għall-ħajja huwa fl-istadji l-izjed bikrija tiegħu ... il-ħajja fil-ġuf.

Dan hu għaliex, Tony Mifsud iddedika ruhhu b’tant impenn u ... nista nghid bi tant passjoni biex jissalvagwardia l-ekoloġija tal-ġuf fejn il-ħajja hija l-aktar vulnerabbli

NGO tagħna stess, Life Network... stabbilit reċentement, japprova x-xogħol imprezzabbli tiegħu u l-missjoni tieghu biex iqajjem kuxjenza pubblika dwar l-importanza vitali ta’ din il-kwistjoni.

Hawnhekk inrid nirikonoxxi ix-xoghol ta’ qaghdiet ohra favur il-hajja bhal Gift of Life mmexxi minn Paul Vincenti.

Sfortunatament, f'Malta, minħabba bidliet kulturali fil-valuri tagħna, il-garanzija tal-ħajja fil-ġuf issa hija taħt theddida bħal qatt qabel.

Minbarra l-fatturi estraneji negattivi bħat-tniġġis ambjentali minħabba kimiċi li jidħlu fis-sistema tal-mara, aħna issa qegħdin niffaċċjaw perikli li ngibu b-idejna stess... self-inflicted ... minħabba xejriet ta 'mġiba li jagħmlu ħsara lill-ekoloġija tal-ġuf.

Ahna nafu, li l-ħajja fil bidu taghha issofri meta omm tpejjep, tixrob alkoħol jew tieħu d-drogi. Sfortunatament... u agħar minn hekk, b'tendenza ta promiskwita’ li qieghda dejjem tiżdied qed niffacjaw it-tixrid ta’ mard debilitanti trasmess sesswalment. Sexually Transmnitted Dieseases.

Minbarra ssir ħsara lill-embrijun u l-fetu, l-impatt negattiv tagħhom jwassal ukoll għal uġigħ, infezzjoni, sterilità u l-kanċer fit-tfajliet u n-nisa.

Huwa bi dwejjaq kbir li wieħed jinnota li jidher li aħna qed niehdu t-triq żbaljat f’kwistjoni ta’ tali gravita’ u importanza, triq li wasslet ghal sitwazzjoni tant diżastruża f’pajjizi oħra.

Hemm bzonn ngharfu  l-impatt tal-imġieba sesswali fuq l-integrità tal-ġuf.

Il-pilastri tant maghrufa tul iz-zminijiet li jirispettaw id- Dinjità Umana li jonora il-kastita’ u relazzjonijiet fidili fiz-zwieg bejn ragel u mara ġew abbandunati u issa qed niffaċċjaw il-konsegwenzi fiz-żieda qawwija fil-tqala fost it tfajliet zaghzagh taghna, it-tixrid tal-mard u iz-zieda alarmanti f’-familji mkissrin.

Madankollu l-akbar theddida huwa l-qerda intenzjonata tal-ħajja nnifisha.

F’Malta ghandna biex niftahru li ahna pajjiz fejn il-hajja hija protetta mill-koncepiment sal-mewt naturali u li l-abort huwa illegali.

Sfortunatament qeghdin naraw attentati ripetuti biex l-affarijiet jinbidlu. Ahna bhala fondazzjoni favur il-hajja, mhassbin hafna anke dwar il-mod kif il-Morning After Pill giet introdotta f’Malta meta huwa xjentifikament ippruvat li hafna drabi hija aborttiva.

Min se jgorr ir-responsibilta’ politika ta’ din id-decizjoni?

Bhala moviment ahna nistennew twegiba ghal din il-mistoqsija.

Ahna jiddispjacina li ir-rakkomandazzjonijiet tal Kumitat Kongjunt tal-Parlament gew injorati.

Ahna nibqghu ninsistu li d-dibattitu jerga jinfetah.

Ghandna xjenzjati esperti ta’ livell internazzjonali lesti biex jigu jghatu xhieda ta’ dan.

Li niflaxxjaw embrijuni fit-toilet sabiex nipprattikaw imġiba sesswali irresponsabbli huwa żgur l-imġieba l-aktar qerrieda li wieħed jista 'jipprattika.

Jien għalhekk qed nieħu vantaġġ minn din l-opportunità biex naghmel appell mqanqal lil-awtoritajiet kollha u n-nies ta 'influwenza għall-bidla radikali.

Ejjew niggieldu għal dak li hu l-aħjar għaż-żgħażagħ tagħna, speċjalment in-nisa żgħażagħ, l-ommijiet ta’ ghada  li għandhom isiru konxji tad dinjita’ taghhom, tat-tabernaklu sakru tal-ħajja li hija il-guf taghhom u l-miraklu tal-konċepiment u t-tqala.

Kif qalet il President taghna fl-okkazjoni tas -sena l-ohra: - “Filwaqt li nawgura lill-'Malta Unborn Child Movement (MUCM)', li jkompli jaħdem biex iġib fuq quddiem il-"wellbeing", anke tat-tarbija meta għada fil-ġuf, nawguralhom kull suċċess fil-miri tagħhom, biex jkomplu jservu ta’ vuċi għat-tarbija li m’għandhiex vuċi.”

Nikkonkludi biex inwissikhom li s-sahta tal-abort hija fuq l-ghatba ta’ pajjizna.

Il-futur u l-gid awtentiku tas-soċjetà, ta’ pajjizna u l-ġenerazzjonijiet futuri jiddependu fuqhom.

Tarmux din l-opportunita’ hekk gravi.

J’Alla, l-Ispirtu s-Santu jmiss qalbkom u idawwal mohhkhom.

Grazzi.

TIMES of Malta - Saturday, January 28, 2017, 00:01

by Tony Mifsud, coordinator, Malta Unborn Child Movement

Women’s rights, fetal rights

Lara Dimitrijevic of the Malta Women’s Rights Foundation (WRF) seems to have been emboldened by the relatively easy introduction, through the Medicines Authority, of the morning-after pill in Malta. In the hasty process it was obvious that those who are after women’s votes saw to it to put MAP on the plate for them.

Even those who could not put anything on any plate, except their intentions and their promises, were delighted that things turned out the way they did… again thanks to the Medicines Authority.

All of them appeared not to bother at all that what happened was, definitely, not “in the best interests of unborn children” at the very beginning of their lives.

Some of them were in the front row of the protest march against corruption in Valletta, and in the front row of the protest march against the “destruction” of Żonqor in Marsascala. They were also in the front rows of the gay pride march in Valletta. But they were not in the front row of the march for the lives of unborn children in Valleta, neither in December 2015 nor in December 2016.

Maybe it is because 4,000 unborn childen every year in Malta do not have a right to vote in general elections. That is what local politics seems to have been reduced to lately, surely in pro-life matters. A sad departure from past practices and principles. Convenience and expediency, it seems, are reigning supreme.

Dimitrijevic said her foundation’s fighting for the introduction of the morning-after pill was “the first step in the fight for women’s rights at a national level”. From now on, according to her, “it will be focusing its efforts on stepping up the fight in the area of violence against women, sexual and reproductive health and gender discrimination”. She also insisted that “WRF did not have a position on abortion”.

How can any women’s organisation have no position on abortion?

Abortion, in common parlance, has one meaning, the deliberate killing of an unborn child. It is staggering how such a profound decision by any woman, which brings about the deliberate termination of the life of her unborn child does not seem to stir WRF to declare its position on abortion. How can any women’s organisation have no position on abortion?

Considering how the foundation portrayed itself in front of the joint parliamentary committee last July on the morning-after pill, by talking only on women’s rights, while saying nothing at all on the rights of unborn children inside their wombs, one can easily conclude that the foundation is in favour of abortion. By default, so far, if not by design.

In Parliament the foundation made a gratuitous statement that the morning-after pill is not abortifacient. It also had the audacity to assert, in an interview with this newspaper,  that “those claiming the contraceptive was abortifacient had not backed up their claims with scientific evidence”. Surely, Dimitrijevic did not know what she was talking about. The pro-life, and medical organisations did so very profusely.

In addition, in a very prominent manner, the chairman of Parliament’s Family Committee, Godfrey Farrugia, who also happens to be a family doctor, declared from the very beginning, that MAP is probably also abortifacient. This at the same time WRF came out, also in the open, clamouring for the availability of MAP over the counter.

That a number of principal exponents in the government party, and some significant exponents in the Opposition are showing, overtly or covertly, that they hold that MAP is not abortifacient, can only be described as irresponsible and pathetic. It seems obvious that they are after women’s votes in the next general election. They are not upholding the sanctity of human life from conception, even if they, and their parties, still profess they are doing so in public.

Unfortunately, many things show that Malta is moving towards introducing legislation on abortion. Indeed on this matter we cannot really say we are the “best in Europe”, or the world.

In the US the opposite is happening. President Donald Trump has named pro-life South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley as his UN ambassador and pro-life former labor secretary Elaine Chao as his choice for transportation secretary.

Trump has also selected pro-life Betsy DeVos as his choice for education secretary and pro-life congressman Tom Price as health secretary and pro-life Sen. Jeff Sessions as Attorney General.

These selections have pleased millions of pro-life voters in the US who seemto have decided the last US presidential election. Trump and vice-presidentMike Pence are clearly showing they intend to keep the promises they made to pro-life voters.

Trump has also named pro-life advocate and neurosurgeon Ben Carson to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Carson made his strong pro-life stance last December when he blamed “peer pressure” for America’s acceptance of abortion as a “woman’s right”.

“Someone has tried to make abortion into an issue of women’s rights,” the neurosurgeon told a pro-life crowd in Nevada. “What about the baby? You know, it’s one of the most sacred relationships in the universe, a mother and that child inside of her.”

When Trump was asked if Roe vs. Wade, the court case which introduced abortion in the US in 1973 would be overturned by judges he would appoint, he said “that would be the case”.

Dimitrijevic said her organisation will be stepping up the fight in Malta in the area of sexual and reproductive health. What exactly she has in mind on this topic is not clear at all. One notable global NGO that fights for sexual and reproductive health and rights worldwide is the International Planned Parenthood Federation.

IPPF is the abortion industry which has been caught lately in the US sellingbaby body parts, after abortions, to university and industry research laboratories for experimentation.

So far IPPF has been receiving many millions of dollars from the Obama administration for its abortion and other activities. It is rumoured that funds from IPPF have already reached Malta for some purpose or other. In the US, at the moment, there is frenetic activity going on to defund IPPF for its criminal action against unborn children. Trump and Pence, here also, are leading the way.

In an interview in the Christmas edition of The Sunday Circle, Dimitrijevic, a Maltese lawyer, repeated she will be working for women rights and violence against women as if she will be the first woman in Malta ever to do so. As if the National Council of Women, the Malta Confederation of Women’s Organisations and Victim Support Malta of lawyer Roberta Lepre, do not exist.

These three women’s organisations have been working for women’s rights for a very long time.

In doing so she gave the impression that she and her foundation might be acting as the fronts for a number of other very liberal measures of the “more to come” type announced lately by a leading government figure. She and her foundation appeared clearly as the front for the introduction of the morning-after pill in Malta which the same government figure is leading.

Will she and her foundation be, some other time, the front agents for the introduction of abortion?

Dimitrijevic has not declared that she is against abortion. Only that she “does not have a position on abortion”, presumably for the time being, until the “more to come” measures start really coming. Maybe soon. Maybe within 15 to 18 months time, or even before.

Times of Malta -Wednesday, February 15, 2017, 06:21

 Precautionary principle

Lara Dimitrijevic should keep doing the good work she said she and the Women’s Rights Foundation (WRF) are doing regarding women’s equality and against domestic violence.

Although we are one of the few nations that still abhor the murder of innocent, voiceless unborn children through abortion, we are proud of our Maltese values and laws that protect the unborn from conception.

This has been the formal position of the three main political parties so far. The latter have taken part and made pro-life speeches in the celebrations of life on pro-life days organised by the Malta Unborn Child Movement during the past 11 years.

Bruno Mozzanega the Italian gynaecologist of world fame who was in Malta last month giving talks on the morning-after pill (MAP) said the “information provided by the World Health Organisation and the European Medical Agency on the morning-after pill is not correct”.

Mozzanega, who has written over 180 scientific papers on reproductive biology, insisted that the scientific data available on the contraceptive MAP proved it is abortifacient and women were being misinformed.

“If Maltese laws protect embryos and politicians decided to introduce the contraceptive without medical prescription they have been deceived by misinformation.”

Mozzanega called on women to stop believing blindly what was being posited by the World Health Organisation and the European Medicines Authority, insisting that if any scientist considered an expert insists that the morning-after pill is not abortifacient, then “the expert is deceiving”.

The authorities should have acted cautiously on MAP. Even the chairman of the local Medicines Authority said in a power point presentation in front of the parliamentary joint committee last July that MAP “may” not be abortifacient.

In this case the precautionary principle should have been applied. Unfortunately, the hasty introduction of MAP in Malta was a great, premeditated mistaken action camouflaged by the supposed consultation, especially in parliament, by the powers that be.

On May 24, 2016, this newspaper reported Minister for the Environment José Herrera saying that “Malta is to vote against the renewal of licences for a controversial herbicide glyphosate with potential links to cancer... In the absence of scientific consensus regarding glyphosate, Malta’s original position was to abstain and recommended the possibility of implementing more stringent conditions in the licensing regimes at a national level... The government has decided to further apply the precautionary principle and, therefore, Malta should vote against the renewal of such licences.”  Those were the words of a wise government minister.

So who bears the responsibility: the dispensing chemist? If MAP has abortive consequences, where will the buck stop?

A woman has a right over her body but she also has a duty to be careful, wise and prudent in her sexual life. She has no right to dispose of her offspring murderously through abortion or through possible abortifacient pills like MAP.

Dimitrijevic, again, said nothing at all about the rights of the unborn child from conception as protected by Maltese laws.

Dimitrijevic should reflect on the article by Josie Muscat (January 16). To my knowledge Muscat is a colleague of Mark Brincat, mentioned by Dimitrijevic. He wrote that: “The simple stark reality remains that should the MAP alter the endometrial milieu and, therefore, prohibiting nidation, then we are actually introducing abortion by the backdoor.”

He further laments that “we have become a shattered society composed of individuals who do not relate to anyone or anything except their own perceived ‘needs’”. And he warns: “The stark reality is that no one has assumed responsibility for educating and informing those interested as to what are the consequences of taking MAP or who to hold responsible.”

By implication that means WRF has failed, so far, to offer these services. It also means the authorities concerned were not reminded by WRF, as WRF “had reminded them to introduce MAP”, of their grave responsibilities to provide much-needed counselling services to MAP users.

The Pro-Life Movement in Malta has been offering free counselling and material services to pregnant women in difficulties through the service HOPE for many years. And there are plans to enhance this service even further.

Muscat laments further: “The medical profession called for MAP by prescription. The Medicines Authority ignored this advice and ordered that MAP could be sold over the counter at the request of the public. No age limitation, no advice and, certainly, no information.”

So who bears the responsibility: the dispensing chemist?  If MAP has abortive consequences, where will the buck stop? Does Dimitrijevic feel the buck stops also somewhere near her and WRF? She has already claimed merit for the introduction of MAP in Malta.

In spite of saying that the “WRF has no position on abortion now”, we have just to wait until the debate on abortion really takes off to see what the position of the WRF will be. Indications are the debate will not take very long to begin.

When it starts we will have to see if, again, there are those neat coincidences that occur when a leading figure in the government who is leading the MAP and similar campaigns sticks to the word given lately, and the promised “more to come” measures start rolling in.

In fact the Times of Malta already reported (January 26) that “the Women’s Rights Group behind the morning-after pill campaign lately demanded a mature debate on reproductive rights and abortion in schools... The call was made after a lesson on abortion delivered by the pro-life lobby Life Network Foundation to fifth form students at the National Sports School some days before.”

When I read Dimitrijevic’s reply (January 31) to my article ‘Women’s Rights and Fetal Rights’ (January 28), I wondered whether time will tell and it would establish if I really knew and understood her thoughts, her plans and her intentions.

Let’s hope I was mistaken.

TIMES - Friday, February 17, 2017, 06:14 by Raymond Bezzina – Pensioner

Defending the most vulnerable

I refer to Lara Dimitrijevic’s article ‘Lies and insinuations’ (January 31) from the Women’s Rights Foundation. She was replying to an article penned by Tony Mifsud entitled ‘Women’s rights, fetal rights’(January 28).

Dimitrijevic’s long response is mainly about criticising Mifsud’s article, women’s rights and violence against women, the morning-after pill and abortion.

Strangely, I did not come across anything in defence of the human right to life from conception.

First, let us keep in mind that approximately 50 per cent of births are girls, and if they are not killed by any means before they see the light of day, they would become women in about 12 years; some even before they reach that age. For all this to happen, they must be protected from the moment of conception.

My questions to Dimitrijevic are: are you against violence on unborn, innocent and defenceless human life? Have you ever researched the violence that exists against unborn human lives, to be able to recognise the gravity of this problem and also to realise the urgency which this matter deserves, and work to bring this violence to an end?

Dimitrijevic, writes: “Our mission is to ensure that they [referring to women] can live a life free from violence.”

How can her organisation even come close to reach an optimal result in favour of women, if unborn human lives are not defended against violence from the moment of conception?

Malta ranks first out of 28 member states in defending human life against violence from the moment of conception

She also writes: “The Gender Equality Index research published in June 2015 shows that Malta ranks 16 out of 28 member states. It showed Malta ranks low when it comes to Maltese women being involved in political decision-making.”

May I remind that Malta ranks first out of 28 member states in defending human life against violence from the momentof conception.

Is Dimitrijevic pleased and grateful that Malta ranks in first place regarding the above issue?

And is she helping to keep Malta’s remarkable achievement and reputation against violence on unborn human life from the moment of conception?

Regarding the morning-after pill, there is still disagreement among organisations, gynaecologists and other professionals whether the morning-after pill is abortive or not, as  there is also disagreement regarding the beginning of a pregnancy; that is, whether it begins when the woman’s ovum is fertilised, whether it begins at the implantation of the embryo, or at any other later stage.

Since both the morning-after pill and pregnancy clearly show that science has not yet reached with certainty a conclusive result, then the ‘golden rule’ should apply and prevail: whenever there is doubt or uncertainty, safety must come first.

In the former case this means that the lives of both the woman and the fertilised ovum must be protected from harm at all times; while in the latter case, since human life begins at conception, the woman should be regarded as being pregnant at this stage and not at any other later period.

Truth on morning-after pill

Dr Miriam Sciberras and Dr Klaus Vella Bardon - Malta Life Network

Times of Malta 18-2-2017 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lara Dimitrijevic reacted with remarkable haste to the article by Tony Mifsud (January 28) that challenged the stand of the Women’s Rights Foundation on abortion.

She should have dispassionately studied all the evidence presented to the Conjoint Parliamentary Committee related to the morning-after pill before supporting its introduction so wholeheartedly.

She tried to belittle MP Godfrey Farrugia by dismissing him as a family doctor and instead invoked the authority of the WHO, the International Federation of Gynaecologists and Obstetrics and the European Medical Agency. What she conveniently leaves out is that these authorities are all openly pro-abortion. These professional bodies do not care about the rights of the unborn child let alone embryos.

WHO and EMA quote scientific papers which say that the morning-after pill acts to stop ovulation. However, on examining their own papers one finds that there is a major flaw and that they do not stop ovulation in the most fertile days. WHO and EMA also have different views of when life and pregnancy begin. They conveniently ignore the first two weeks of life and define pregnancy as starting at the end of implantation. These facts are very easy to research and verify.

For reasons best known to them, the local medical experts and above all Anthony Serracino Inglott, as head of the Medicines Authority, also chose to ignore the first stages of embryonic life.

Bruno Mozzanega, a renowned authority on the morning-after pill, recently gave a presentation locally. Despite being invited, Mark Brincat and Serracino Inglott evaded the opportunity to face him and challenge his claims that MAP is abortifacient.

Mozzanega did not mince his words. With great lucidity, he portrayed the abortifacient properties of these drugs that are wrongly peddled as contraceptives. He politely called on women to stop blindly believing all that was being claimed by the WHO and the EMA, stating unequivocally that if any scientific expert insists that the morning-after pill is not abortifacient, then “the expert is deceiving”.

He bluntly said that “if in the light of the scientific evidence available, a gynaecologist insists that MAP is not abortifacient, he is lying”. He presented scientific papers to back what he was saying. He is more than willing, together with others, to return to Malta to testify with scientific facts, and the challenge is open to whoever wants to debate with him.

Therefore, Tony Mifsud is definitely not talking through his hat when he contends that the morning-after pill can be an abortifacient and that calling it a contraceptive is a lie. In fact, it is worse than a lie to give false information to Parliament on a life and death issue. It is scandalous.

To this end, Life Network Foundation Malta and all pro-life groups will never accept emergency abortifacients, also falsely labelled emergency contraceptives. Maltese law upholds the well-established scientific fact that life starts at conception, and it is a disservice to the consumer that these facts are withheld.

That Dimitrijevic and her organisation help women in distress does not exonerate her wrong stance on MAP. In her article, she does not spell out what she implies by sexual and reproductive health, which is why it could easily be construed as a cheap slogan to promote abortifacients and worse.

After all, at a meeting of the European Parliamentary Committee on ‘Women’s Rights’ held with women’s organisations on February 3, Dimitrijevic and Andrea Dibbins boasted that they had campaigned successfully for the introduction of MAP showing indifference to the evidence of their abortifacient properties.

Therefore, her contention that the Women’s Rights Foundation does not have a position on abortion is most worrying and justifies Mifsud’s grave concerns. An NGO worthy of its name should have a position on such a core issue irrespective of what some of its members may think. Not taking a position speaks volumes.

We agree with her that every effort should be done to assist women facing pregnancies in difficult situations. There is widespread consensus in Malta about this. We hope that when such a worthy project really takes shape it will get the full support of all women’s NGOs.

Turtle eggs and human embryos

by Hon Clyde Puli – Malta Parliament

Malta Independent - 11th December, 2016

Ironic as it may seem, it has become duly commendable to cordon off a public beach in the height of summer to protect the eggs laid by a turtle at Golden Sands, while it is increasingly becoming out of fashion to provide the human embryo with the same level of protection.

Running roughshod over opinions, concerns and sensitivities has been Labour’s signature style of governing in the last four years and it seems that the latest sector in sight is assisted reproduction: a sector that is characterised by widely divergent opinions, legitimate concerns and principled sensitivities is at risk of being shaken up for no other reason than some political back-room deal.

Technology that brings joy to families

In Malta, in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), along with other fertility treatments, has been offered since the early 1990s when the socialist ban of the 1970s on private health-care sector operators was lifted by Fenech Adami’s Nationalist administration.

Whilst the first baby born as a result of IVF in the UK was Louise Joy Brown in 1977, the first Maltese conceived by IVF had to wait until 1991. Since then, fertility treatments and assisted reproductive technology has gained both legitimacy and popularity.

Fifteen years on, the sector has advanced but remains unregulated. So the situation then required a legal framework whose ethical underpinnings sought to protect human life whilst bringing joy to our families. That was the task the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Affairs under my chairmanship set to accomplish in 2005.

The social affairs committee and consensus building

For eight intense months, we heard medical practitioners, experts and stakeholders give their views. Exchanges were lively, respectful and always interesting. I made sure that not only did we hear people with expertise in wide range of disciplines but also couples who had experienced fertility problems. Their stories were tinged with pain which, in some cases, had led to the breakdown of their marriage and/or mental health problems. This convinced me even more that whilst regulation was needed, the treatment was to remain available and – more so – available without charge as part of the public health service. And to this end I relentlessly argued in favour whenever and wherever the opportunity arose.

I take pride not only in the fact that this was the first report ever produced by a Parliamentary Standing Committee but also because it provided the impetus to Parliament to legislate and its recommendations were judged to be sufficiently cogent to make them into law. I wrote a report that brought together the views expressed and also made recommendations so that any eventual legislation would be built on solid foundations.

A pro-life piece of legislation

The report’s contents are reflected in the essential elements of the Embryo Protection Act. IVF was kept legal and the requirements to which it was subject included limiting availability to couples in a stable relationship. The freezing of oocytes was permitted while prohibitions were introduced for surrogacy, gamete donation and embryo freezing (except in very particular cases where it was unsafe to implant the embryo). All this was in the best interests of the child yet to be born.

The law, and the report that preceded it, is unequivocally pro-life and pro-child, without being draconian or unreasonable. Those principles, together with the meticulous consensus-building that took place while the report was in the making and the following years, resulted in a general agreement: the parliamentary vote was unanimous and, nationally, the disagreements were few and far between.

A successful piece of legislation

According to a report recently tabled by the Embryo Protection Authority, between January 2013 and June 2015 a total of 411 IVF and ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) cycles were carried out, resulting in 116 pregnancies – meaning a 28 per cent success rate.

This 28 per cent compares favourably with the UK’s success rate of 25 per cent – and this for a country whose laws allow embryo freezing. And despite a marginal fall in the rate in 2015, last year the IVF/ICSI cycles increased threefold over 2012, the year in which the legislation was enacted.

Out of step proposals

With the facts being what they are, and the legislation barely four years old, it is odd that the Prime Minister should be kowtowing to a radical fringe within his Party. Investing in technology and training is fundamental, as is reviewing the law regularly to make sure that it is in step with technological developments. But the law’s basic principles – safeguarding the best interests of the unborn child – should stand.

Also author of the book: The Secret Life of the Unborn Child,

By creating a warm, emotionally enriching environment in utero, a woman can make a decisive difference in everything her child feels, hopes, dreams, thinks, and accomplishes throughout life.

Verny is a pioneer in the field of pre- and perinatal psychology, a father, and psychiatrist in private practice. Here he presents a wealth of research indicating that the unborn child is a deeply sensitive individual who forms a powerful relationship with his or her parents--and the outside world--while still in the womb.

While it is widely believed that the human fetus is a blank slate, lacking true sensation, emotional affect, or even the ability to feel pain, pregnant women through the ages have intuitively known what scientists have only recently discovered: that a mother's unborn child hears her voice and senses her love. The unborn child has significant sensory capabilities. He can see, hear, and feel.

Il-President ta' Malta, L-E.T. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, imħassba dwar l-irwejjaħ kimiċi fis-salons tax-xagħar

06:52  |  15.02.2016

Fl-okkażjoni ta’ Jum il-Ħajja, il-President tar-Repubblika Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca wriet it-tħassib tagħha dwar l-effetti li l-irwejjaħ kimiċi fis-salons tax-xagħar jista’ qed ikollhom fuq saħħet in-nies, fosthom nisa tqal u tfal.

Sadanittant, waqt quddiesa b’rabta mal-istess okkażjoni, l-Arċisqof Charles Scicluna wissa li nkunu qed nitilfu l-“boxxla” jekk indaħħlu l-ewtanasja għax jekk indaħħlu d-dritt ta’ meta għandna ntemmu ħajjitna nkunu qed nagħtu lok li mbagħad insiru sidien fuq il-ħajja ta’ ħaddieħor.

Coleiro Preca esprimiet it-tħassib tagħha dwar l-ambjent fil-hair salons fil-Konkatidral ta’ San Ġwann hekk kif kienet qed tindirizza attività organizzat mill-Moviment għad-Drittijiet, Protezzjoni u Żvilupp tat-Tarbija li se Titwieled fl-okkażjoni ta’ Jum il-Ħajja li ġie iċċelebrat il-Ħadd.

Il-President kienet qed tisħaq fuq l-importanza tal-ambjent fis-saħħa tal-bniedem fejn qalet li tinkwieta bin-nuqqas ta’ informazzjoni li jeżisti f’ċertu postijiet tax-xogħol.

Kien hawn li rreferiet għall-hairdressers u l-ammonti ta’ kimiċi li jista’ jkun qed jibilgħu bla protezzjoni għal saħħithom u esprimiet it-tħassib tagħha li jista’ jkun hemm nisa u tfajliet tqal jew dawk ma’ wliedhom li minbarra saħħithom qed jipperikolaw dik ta’ trabi li għadhom ma tweldux u ta’ tfal.

Il-President enfasizzat li huwa importanti għall-individwu, inkluż l-ommijiet tqal, li fil-pajjiż ikollna ambjent b’saħħtu u rrimarkat li għal dawk li qed jistennew tarbija dan huwa importanti daqs li jevitaw it-tipjip, id-droga u l-alkoħol u li joqgħodu attenti x’jieklu u jagħmlu l-eżerċizzju.

Hija esprimiet is-sodisfazzjon tagħha kemm għall-fatt li fiż-żmien li ġej il-Gvern għandu jwaqqaf l-użu tal-Heavy Fuel Oil kif ukoll għal-liġi li ressqet l-Oppożizzjoni dwar stil ta’ ħajja sana u qalet li dawn juru kemm iż-żewġ partiti ewlenin qed jaħdmu fuq l-ambjent.

Coleiro Preca rreferiet għaż-żjara li għamlet fl-iskola primarja tal-Fgura fi tmiem il-ġimgħa fejn semmiet li waqt li soltu t-tfal ikellmuha fuq l-ambjent u l-bullying, l-istudenti tal-Fgura kellmuha fuq l-ambjent u x’idejjaqhom jew x’jixtiequ jaraw fil-pajjiż.

Fid-diskors tagħha hija ma naqsitx li titkellem dwar il-ħajja fejn iddeskrivitha bħala l-aqwa turija ta’ valur u enfasizzat li mhux biżżejjed ngħidu li l-ħajja tibda mill-konċepiment imbagħad ikun hemm ġustifikazzjonijiet li jistgħu jipperikolaw il-ħajja.

Hawnhekk irreferiet għall-kwistjoni tal-IVF u wissiet li jekk mhux se jkun hemm spjegazzjoni dwar dan is-suġġett din se tispiċċa ‘issue’ tal-partiti politiċi.

Fl-istess ħin hija saħqet li bħala poplu rridu nerfgħu r-responsabbilta tad-deċiżjonijiet li nieħdu u enfasizzat li l-poplu jrid jifhem fuqhiex qed jitkellem waqt li semmiet kif meta tkellem lin-nies ikun hemm min jifhem biċċa u minn biċċa oħra. Għalhekk ħeġġet lill-politiċi biex jitkellmu b’mod li jifmuhom in-nies.

Kien f’dan il-ħin li saħqet li fil-pajjiż ma rridux inħallu kliem u ideat bħall-progressiviżmu, il-liberaliżmu u n-neo-liberaliżmu biex nieħdu deċiżjonijiet għal-lum mingħajr ma naraw il-konsegwenzi ta’ għada.

Hija rreferiet ukoll għall-konvenzjoni dwar it-tfal, irrimarkat li din mhiex riflessa fid-drittijiet tat-tfal u esprimiet it-tama tagħha li fil-pajjiż ikollna liġi komprensiva fejn jidħlu d-drittijiet tagħhom.

L-aktar kreatura f’periklu li tinqered it-tarbija qabel titwieled

Fl-attività tkellmet ukoll Dr Miriam Sciberras, esperta fil-bijoetika li tmexxi l-Life Network Malta, għaqda favur il-ħarsien tal-ħajja sa minn qabel it-twelid.

Hija bdiet biex iddeskriviet lit-tarbija li tkun għadha ma twelditx bħala l-“aktar kreatura fil-periklu li tinqered”.

Dr Sciberras nsistiet li l-embrijun huwa “wieħed minna”, għandu dritt għall-ħajja u għalhekk għandu jingħata ċ-ċans li jitwieled.

Hija rrimarkat li Malta tinsab f’salib it-toroq fuq il-kwistjoni tal-konċepiment u esprimiet it-tħassib tagħhom għat-tibdil li jista’ jsir fil-liġi.

Waqt li appellat lill-politiċi biex jibqgħu jassiguraw li l-ħajja tibda mill-konċepiment, il-kelliema nsistiet li ma nistgħux inqablu pajjiżna ma’ pajjiżi oħra għax barra m’hemmx ir-rispett għall-ħajja kif għandna fostna.

Dr Sciberras semmiet kif barra minn Malta kien hemm trabi li wara li twieldu tħallew f’xi ‘park’ jew saħanistra fi ‘skip’ minbarra l-ammont ta’ abort li jsiru f’isem il-libertà.

Hija rreferiet għall-iffriżar tal-embrijuni u qalet li dan iwaqqaf il-ħajja waqt li staqsiet għaliex jintagħżlu tnejn u l-oħrajn jiġu iffriżati.

Iċ-ċerpersin tal-Life Network Malta ikkritikat ukoll id-donazzjoni tal-bajd jew l-isperma u qalet li t-trabi li jitwieldu huma ltiema meta kull tarbija għandu jkollha d-dritt li tkun taf min huma l-ġenituri tagħha.

Dr Sciberras temmet il-kelmtejn tagħha billi appellat lill-politiċi biex jiddefendu d-dritt tat-tfal u jaraw li jiddefendu d-dritt tal-ħajja u ma jiżvalutawhix.

Deo Debattista jissuġġerixxi t-twaqqif ta' klinika favur il-ħajja

Il-membru parlamentari Deo Debattista kien il-kelliem f’isem il-PL fejn issuġġerixxa li għandha titwaqqaf klinika favur il-ħajja biex nisa u tfajliet li għal raġuni jew oħra jkunu qed isibuha diffiċli biex ikomplu t-tqala jkollhom fejn jiġu megħjuna.

Huwa qal li sal-lum mara jew tfajla li jkunu għaddejjin minn xi problema biex ikomplu bit-tqala faċli jidħlu fl-internet u jsibu klinika fejn jistgħu jtemmu t-tqala imma m’hemmx fejn ikunu jistgħu jingħataw għajnuna kemm jekk psikoloġika kif ukoll jekk finanzjarja.

It-Tabib Debattista għamilha ċara li huwa jemmen li l-ħajja tibda mill-konċepiment u appella lil dawk preżenti biex iwasslu dan il-messaġġ.

Huwa qal ukoll li jemmen fl-IVF għax iqis din il-proċedura bħala waħda favur il-ħajja u koppja li ma jistax ikollha tfal għandha tiġi mgħejjuna.

Madankollu wissa li l-proċess m’għandux iservi biex jinqerdu l-ulied u nsista li l-embrijun m’għandux jiġi meqjus qisu xi ‘side effect’ tal-proċedura (IVF).

Debattista nsista wkoll li għandha tinbidel in-nomenklatura tal-embrijun u sostna li trid issir, fi kliemu, “babies żgħar”.

Id-deputat Laburista rrefera għall-għajta ta’ Malta bħala l-aqwa fl-Ewropa u sostna li diġà hija l-aqwa fl-Ewropa fil-ħarsien tat-trabi qabel it-twelid fejn anke nsista li m’għandnix nimxu wara pajjiżi oħra imma rridu mmexxu bl-eżempju.

Debattista wissa biex ma nagħtux dak li huwa sejjaħ “tiċpisa politika” lil dan is-suġġett għax jekk nagħmlu hekk min għadu ma fehemx itella l-ħitan tal-injoranza u jiffoka fuq dak li jemmen.

Huwa temm billi qal li hawn nies intelliġenti aktar minnu li jġibu raġunijiet dwar l-iffriżar tal-embrijuni u t-terminazzjoni tat-tqala imma sostna li huwa jgħid li intelliġenti kemm huma intelliġenti l-argumenti tagħhom huwa jgħidilhom li mingħajr il-ħajja ma jistax ikun hemm intelliġenza.

Id-deputat Paula Mifsud Bonnici, f’isem il-PN li huwa membru tal-imsemmi moviment, saħqet li rridu nibqgħu ngħożżu l-valur tal-ħajja.

Hija iddeskriviet lill-poplu tagħna bħala wieħed speċjali, saħqet li m’għandnix inħossuna differenti minn pajjiżi oħrajn sempliċiment għax għandhom liġijiet differenti u enfasizzat li rridu nqabblu lilna nfusna ma’ min hu aħjar minna.

L-Avukat Mifsud Bonnici nsistiet li l-politiċi jridu jżommu sodi u jagħtu valur lill-ħajja lill-ħajja fejn jekk jemmnu li l-ħajja tibda mill-konċepiment allura jridu jaħdmu biex l-embrijun ikun protett.

Id-deputat Nazzjonalista semmiet li fil-pajjiż dejjem kellna partiti favur liġijiet li jħarsu l-ħajja imma saħqet li m’għandnix inħallu l-egoiżmu u l-materjaliżmu jirbħu u rrimarkat li l-Gvern u l-Oppożizzjoni għandhom jassiguraw li l-liġi tkun tipproteġi t-trabi sa minn qabel ma jkunu twieldu.

Hija appellat biex iż-żewġ naħat ikomplu jagħtu valur lil-liġi approvata fl-2012 bi qbil bejniethom.

Ir-rappreżentant tal-Alternattiva Demokratika Mario Mallia beda l-intervent tiegħu billi sejjaħ bħala “surreali” ċ-ċapċip li l-Kungress Amerikan ta lill-Papa Franġisku għad-diskors li għamel kontra l-abort u l-piena kapitali meta l-istess Kungress Amerikan favurihom.

Huwa rrefera wkoll għall-problemi li qed jiffaċċjaw l-immigranti fl-Ewropa u wera t-tħassib tiegħu li hemm ukoll tfal li qed jispiċċaw użati minn min irid jagħmel il-flus minn fuqhom.

Mallia semma wkoll il-każ tal-ħaxix li nstab li kellu livell ta’ pestiċida aktar minn dak permissibbli u qal li minn jaf kemm kien hawn ommijiet tqal li kienu qed jieklu l-ħaxix għax mingħalihom tajjeb għal saħħithom u t-tarbija li se jkollhom imma li fl-istess waqt kienu qed jieklu minnu.

Huwa ikkritika l-fatt li Malta qatt ma nvestiet f’laboratorju li jittestja l-livell tal-pestiċidi fil-ħxejjex bil-konsegwenza li kampjuni tagħhom qed jintbagħtu barra għat-testijiet u r-riżultati jdumu ma jaslu.

“Ma nbiddlux l-attitudni għax inbidlet f‘pajjiżi oħrajn”

Kelliem ieħor kien Martin Chetcuti, koordinatur tas-Segretarjat Assistenza Soċjali (SAS) li jagħmel parti mill-istess moviment.

Huwa rrefera għall-liġi tal-IVF fejn irrimarka li f’din iċ-ċirkostanza l-bidu tat-tarbija ma jkunx fil-ġuf imma fid-‘dish’.

Dwar l-iffriżar tal-embrijuni, huwa enfasizza li rridu nipproteġu l-ħajja u s-saħħa tal-bniedem sa mill-bidu nett u saħaq li bħala ġenitur ma jista’ qatt ipoġġi fil-periklu ħajjet wieħed minn uliedu.

Chetcuti appella biex bħala pajjiż nibqgħu nwasslu messaġġ favur il-valur tal-ħajja u insista li l-attitudni tagħna m’għandix tinbidel għax f’pajjiżi oħra hemm prattika differenti.

Huwa appella lill-membri parlamentari u lill-politiċi biex jerfgħu r-responsabbilta u jaħdmu favur dawn il-prinċipji u rrimarka kif huma jemmnu li d-dritt tal-ħajja għandu jkun imnaqqax fil-Kostituzzjoni.

Chetcuti appella wkoll lin-nisa li qed jistennew tarbija biex jieħdu ħsieb saħħet uliedhom billi ma jpejpux, ma jixorbux alkoħol u lanqas jieħdu droga kif ukoll jevitaw emissjonijiet kimiċi u tossiċi nkluż fuq postijiet tax-xogħol.o

Mass by Arcbishop Charles Scicluna  at St John Cathedral on Pro-Life Day 14-2-16  by Malta Unborn Child Movement

Omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles J. Scicluna

Kon-Katidral ta’ San Ġwann, il-Belt Valletta - 14 ta’ Frar 2016

It-tliet tentazzjonijiet li jirrakkontalna Luqa fl-Evanġelju li għadna kemm smajna (Lq 4, 1-13); li huwa l-Vanġelu tal-Ewwel Ħadd tar-Randan, huma tliet tentazzjonijiet partikolarment adatti għal Ġesù; huma lixka biex ix-xitan jaqbdu taħt il-ħakma tiegħu.

L-ewwel tentazzjoni qawwija ħafna hija dik li jagħti risposta għall-ġuħ tiegħu: mhux bħala bniedem, imma bħala Iben Alla. Fir-risposta tiegħu lix-xitan, Ġesù jgħidlu: il-qawwa tiegħi mhux għalija, “il-bniedem mhux bil-ħobż biss jgħix imma b’kull kelma li toħroġ minn fomm Alla” (ara Dt 8, 3-6). ‘Il quddiem naraw kif il-Mulej juża’ din il-qawwa biex jitma’ lil ħaddieħor imma ma jużahiex biex itaffi l-ġuħ tiegħu. Kemm jgħallimna dan l-atteġġjament ta’ Ġesù li hu jgħix f’ubbidjenza lejn il-Missier, u fejn il-qawwa tiegħu mhux biex taqdi lilu imma hi riservata bħala qadi għall-oħrajn.

It-tieni tentazzjoni hija li jkun leader mondjali li jisseduċi lil kulħadd bil-qawwa ta’ din id-dinja. Fir-risposta tiegħu, Ġesù jerġa’ jikkwota l-Iskrittura u jgħid: Il-veru primat u sovranità vera hija dik ta’ Alla, mhux ta’ din id-dinja. “Lill-Mulej Alla tiegħek tadura, lilu biss taqdi” (ara Dt 6, 13-14).  Hija xi ħaġa ta’ tkexkix tifhem li Satana jħoss li l-qawwa u l-frugħa ta’ din id-dinja huma f’idejh, biex iqassamhom lil min irid. U Ġesù minn dan m’għandu bżonn xejn u ma jrid xejn.

It-tielet tentazzjoni hija li Ġesù jagħżel triq spettakolari fil-missjoni tiegħu. Għalhekk it-tentazzjoni hija li minn fuq it-tempju ta’ Ġerusalemm jaqa’ u ma jiġrilu xejn. Satana stess jikkwota l-Iskrittura biex jikkonvinċih u Ġesù jaf li t-triq tiegħu hija ta’ ubbidjenza lill-Missier mhux li jkun leader spettakolari. U Ġesù jerġa’ jikkwota l-Iskrittura: “Jingħad ‘la ġġarabx lill-Mulej Alla tiegħek” (ara Dt 6, 16).

It-talba li għallimna l-Mulej hija talba ta’ umiltà kbira, talba li tirrikonoxxi l-primat ta’ Alla fuq il-ħajja tagħna u fuq il-ħolqien, imma hija talba tal-ulied: “Missierna li inti fis-smewwiet, jitqaddes ismek, tiġi saltnatek, ikun li trid int” (Mt 6, 9-10).  Hija talba ta’ sottomissjoni filjali, mhux servili; hija talba tal-ulied lil missierhom.

F’dan il-jum li fih qegħdin niċċelebraw Jum il-Ħajja, nixtieq nirrifletti ftit magħkom fuq silta’ qasira mill-Ewwel Qari li smajna mill-ktieb tad-Dewteronomju: “Ħariġna l-Mulej mill-Eġittu, b’id qawwija, bi driegħ merfugħ, b’biża’ kbir, b’sinjali u b’għeġubijiet. U daħħalna f’dan il-post, tana din l-art, art tnixxi ħalib u għasel” (Dt 26, 8-9). Din hija silta’ minn talba kommemorattiva li Mosè, il-leader tal-poplu Lhudi, jikkmanda li tingħad b’tifkira tal-ħelsien. U tikkonkludi hekk: “U issa jiena ġibt l-ewwel frott tal-art li tajtni int, Mulej” (Dt 6, 10).

Mela l-offerta tal-poplu hija don lil Alla mill-ġid li tana hu. Din hija xi ħaġa li aħna l-Insara nikkommemoraw f’kull Ewkaristija meta fl-offertorju aħna noffru l-ħobż, “frott tal-art u xogħol il-bniedem”. Imma noffruh lill-Mulej. Hekk ukoll l-inbid. Aħna rċevejna dawn id-doni mingħand il-Mulej u nerġgħu nagħtuhomlu, u hu jittrasformahom.

Jiena nixtieq naqsam magħkom żewġ ħsibijiet importanti fuq il-bidu u t-tmiem tal-ħajja u noffrihom b’umiltà kbira. Kemm hi ħaġa sabiħa li llum, f’Jum il-Ħajja, nirringrazzjaw lill-Mulej ta’ dan id-don tal-ħajja, li hija rigal li nirċievu mingħandu. Aħna nikkoperaw mal-Mulej fil-bidu ta’ ħajja ġdida, imma kull ħajja, tiġi kif tiġi, tiġi minn liema ċirkostanzi tiġi,  anke jekk ikunu ċirkostanzi trawmatiċi jew vjolenti, hija rigal tal-Mulej. Mhux qiegħed niġġustifika ċ-ċirkustanzi traġiċi li bihom tista’ tiġi ħajja fid-dinja, bl-ebda mod! Imma dik il-bikja ta’ dik it-tarbija hija rigal u barka.

Jiena drajt li meta nisma’ tarbija tibki waqt l-omelija, lanqas biss ma tiġini f’moħħi li ngerger, imma ngħid: ‘grazzi, Mulej hawn tarbija li qed tgħidilna ‘l-ewwelnett iddumx tipprietka’, u t-tieni ‘ddejjaqnix’. Darba, l-Isqof Fulton Sheen ġralu hekk, u jiena tgħallimtha l-lezzjoni jiena u naqra l-bijografija tiegħu. Kien hemm waħda kellha tarbija qiegħda tibki u bdiet tinkwieta u qamet u ħarġet. U qalilha: ‘Mhux qed iddejjaqni’. Qaltlu: ‘le, int qed iddejjaqni, sinjur’.  Tgħallimha malajr il-lezzjoni, l-Isqof Fulton Sheen, li hemm kawża għall-beatifikazzjoni tiegħu. Din il-barka li aħna nisimgħu, il-bikja ta’ tarbija li ġiet fid-dinja u li aħna nilqgħu bħala don kbir ta’ Alla u att ta’ tama fl-umanità.

Illum nixtieq ukoll nitlob li aħna nibqgħu ngħożżu l-ħajja anke meta ssir piż tqil għalina fl-età avvanzata, jew fl-esperjenza kiefra tal-mard terminali. Jiena nifhem, nifhem, it-tentazzjoni kbira li għandna li ngħidu li d-dinjità tal-bniedem titlob li aħna nieqfu minn eżistenza ta’ skomfort, ta’ tbatija, u ta’ nuqqas ta’ possibiltajiet. Hija tentazzjoni qawwija u kbira u m’għandna l-ebda dritt nikkundannaw lil min tant hu mgħobbi, jew bil-biża’ tal-prospett ta’ ħajja iebsa ħafna u mgħobbija ħafna għalih u għal ta’ madwaru, u qed jgħid, ‘isma’ kif se nagħmel jien biex inkun nista’ naħrab minn din is-sitwazzjoni ta’ tbatija kbira?’ Imma aħna, b’dan kollu ma nistgħux nieqfu nirriflettu. Jekk aħna naħsbu li aħna sidien ta’ ħajjitna allura tlifna l-vera boxxla għax inkella nsiru sidien ukoll tal-ħajja ta’ ħaddieħor. Impressjonatni ħafna l-frażi tal-Kardinal Nicholls - allavolja daħlet il-liġi tal-assisted suicide fir-Renju Unit -  li jgħid: ‘a person’s right to die is another person’s duty to kill’. Il-kmandament ‘la toqtolx’ qiegħed hemm biex aħna jkollna l-protezzjoni f’kull ċirkostanza, anke meta aħna l-iżjed vulnerabbli.

Mela waqt li aħna naħdmu biex ikun hawn il-kura għall-mard li jaf jagħtina prospetti ta’ tbatija kiefra, u nitolbu għal dawk kollha li huma impenjati f’din ir-riċerka, irridu wkoll nimpenjaw ruħna biex inkunu ta’ sapport għal xulxin, għax l-ikbar kundanna hija s-solitudni fit-tbatija. U nkomplu ninsistu li l-ħajja għandha valur anke meta ma jidhirx li fiha valur. Dan mingħajr ma nikkundannaw lil ħadd, mingħajr ma naqtgħu qalb ħadd, u nitolbu d-dawl anke fuq min imexxina biex din il-vuċi ta’ libertà li tgħid: ‘jiena s-sid tal-ħajja, agħżel il-ħajja mhux il-mewt’, tidħol fil-fond tal-qalb u r-ruħ tagħna u jkun Hu d-dawl li jmexxina fid-deċiżjonijiet tagħna.

 Malta Stand up for Life

Speech by Tony Mifsud – Coordinator, Malta Unborn Child Movt - at the Rally4Life  and against Embryo Freezing - Sunday 6-12-2015  Valletta, MALTA

I represent the Malta Unborn Child  Movement which was set up in 2003 and which consists of 44 national organisations, including the three political parties, the Association of Local Councils and the College of Parish Priests.

So far MUCM has organised ten national conferences, published thefirst Maltese Charter on the Rights, Protection and Devolopment of the Unborn Child, and set up Pro-Life Day. For the last eight years on Pro-Life Day, which MUCM celebrates on the First Sunday of February in Valletta, a Manifestation in favour of Life was held, always with the active participation of the three political parties. This year, also, with the participation of the President of Malta.

The Movement appeared before the Social Affairs Committee of Parliament several times, and each time, the same Committee and Parliament itself, agreed with the Movt’s proposals, in a unanimous way, that the laws of Malta should provide for the protection of life, and the physical, emotional and mental health of unborn children. The Movt’s proposals were included in the new  Law of 2003 on the Commissioner for Children, the new Law of 2006 on Domestic Violence and the new Law of 2012 on Sustainable Development.

In 2012 there was unanimous agreement in Parliament, again, on the new law on the Protection of the Human Embryo.

At present MUCM is working on a project on Womb Ecology with the collaboration of similar organisations in Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Greece and  USA. In this project. there is a role for the three political parties and the association of local council.

Lately we heard that the Maltese authorities want to give a chance to childless couples to have children, which in itself is a very good thing. Then we started hearing that to achieve this aim a change in the Embryo Protection Law was being considered to permit embryo freezing. And this is where all of us here , and many others, disagree.

To satisfy the wish, not the right, of marrried, or unmarried, childless couples, or individuals, to have children, you cannot permit the  freezing of embryos, very little unborn children, just because these little children are voiceless and powerless, and you think you can do what you like with them. Here, also, the right to equality for the right to life comes into play.

The process itself of thawing connected with embryo freezing implies  great risks to the life of the little unborn children, who die in the process or are discarded through negligence or  wilful destruction. Or worst, because the natural parents discard them and embryos are sold  as a comodity. If we do that we will be going back, as other countries have gone back already,  to the times when slaves were sold as a commodity.

According to the Parliamentary Secretary for Health there are about  40 childless couples a year who wish  to have children. Irrespective of the number of these couples  it goes against the dignity of every human being, whether it is a  very little  unborn child or an adult, whether white, black or yellow, to be treated in this way.

And since embryos cannot speak for themselves and protest against any undignified treatment we do that here, and everywhere, for them.

We appeal to whoever came out with this idea to do some rethinking. We appeal also to all Members of Parliament to do the same because, in the end, it is they who, in their majority, have to pass, or not,  any new legislation on embryo freezing. We, the people, have elected  them to Parliament through our  democractic system. So they could not, and should not legislate  against the wish of the people.

All Members of Parliament, no++ w, have been given some very good advice, after a very profound study of this issue, by a group of Maltese experts in the fields of medicine, law, psychology, social policy, family studies, disability studies, theology and philosophy. A retired Judge of the European Court of Justice and a member of the Ethics Committee of the European Union are amongst the members of this group.

Listen to one of the recommemndations of the group  The prevailing scientific data and the results obtained from local IVF treatment to date demonstrate that the introduction of embryo freezing in Malta is scientifically unnecessary and unreasonable... On the basis of legal, medical and ethical arguments, the Embryo Protection Act should be maintained as is, since it strongly upholds the dignity and integrity of the human embryo.

There  should  not  be, aslo, any abuse of one particular clause in the Embryo Protection Law which permits embryo freezing in what the law itself says is a  very exceptional circumstance. This is  when an embryo cannot be implanted in the mother’s womb because she has since died of natural causes or because of  an accident. Unfortunately, the proposers of wider embryo freezing  are quoting this clause to justify their decison to go for a change in the Embryo Protection Law.

Malta’s criminal law does not punish severerly those who, in self-defence, take away the life of others. This, however,  does not mean that anybody can kill another human being for whatever reason he thinks justifies his action. That is not allowed by the same law. That would not be self defence, but murder.

Embryo freezing is not the only way to help childless couples have chilren. There are also fostering and adoption.

There is also another method. In other countries childless couples go to psychologists, family therapists,  work therapists, and nutritionists, who after examining the ways of life of the couples, with the couples themselves, suggest changes to their life styles, including how to find  remedies  to deal with  stress in the family, and at work,. In many cases couples end up having children of their won after adopting the suggested measures.

The Maltese authorities should  promote, and invest, in the consolidation, or establishment, of these specialist services to help  childless couples have children without resorting to embryo freezing  which, in the process can, and do, bring also inhuman treatment  death to their very little unborn children.

We hope that common sense will prevail also in this matter of embryo freezing, and Malta will continue to uphold, and cherish, the right to life from conception which has made it look unique and special in the eyes of the whole world. n

Rally4Life  and against Embryo Freezing - Sunday 6-12-2015  Valletta, MALTA

Gianna Jessen of USA

In a heartfelt appeal, abortion survivor Gianna Jessen of USA  urged those present to fight against the introduction of abortion but keep forgiveness and Jesus in their hearts.

“Stand now and fight now because this evil is at your doorstep and must be fought,” she said. “If abortion is about a woman’s rights, what about mine,” she asked.

Born in America in 1977, Ms Jessen has become a prominent worldwide pro-life activist due to her miraculous escape from death after her 17-year-old mother had committed abortion by saline injection. In spite of spending 18 hours burning in the solution, the baby was delivered still alive, albeit with a number of conditions, including cerebral palsy.
